President Barack Obama blesses the masses outside of St. Peter's in Rome, er, at a White House press conference.
We have a lot to give thanks for in this country. All too often, in this day and age of moral and political turmoil, we tend to neglect our obligation to express gratitude for the things that we have. In this light, I've compiled a list of things that I'm grateful for from our current president, from his administration, and from leftist liberals.
Thank you President Obama for your excellent example showing the necessity of controlling spending and getting out of debt.
Every individual should learn this simple lesson about basic economics. No individual, household, business, or government can long endure a systematic disregard of uncontrolled spending and uncontrolled debt. Obama has led the way, just as he and Congress said they would during the election years, that they would be the most fiscally responsible administration ever.
I'm also thankful that Congress agrees in every way with fiscal responsibility. Just think how awful our country's economy would be after just one more dismal year under George W. Bush. All those earmarks under his administration, all that deficit spending, and the national debt certainly needed to be brought under control. Thanks must go to our current Congress for showing us the way to fiscal responsibility and reigning in government spending.
Thank you President Obama for changing those unfortunate Bush foreign policies and setting the US right with the rest of the world.
I'm certainly relieved that Obama has repaired the mistakes of our national foreign policy under George W. Bush. I sleep better at night knowing that we're no longer embroiled in the badly conceived wars in Iraq or in Afghanistan and that our military is well out of harm's way. I was concerned when President Bush had no exit strategy for removing troops from Iraq, but that Obama has come along and fixed that, as well as setting firm military parameters in Afghanistan.
I am comfortable knowing that our commander in chief has a handle on the Mideast, especially with the problems brewing in Iran and in Israel. We've certainly gained a lot of ground in those areas since Bush was ousted from office.
Also, we can all rest assured that Obama's strategic nuclear policy places the US on firm ground as a world leader. I was certainly concerned that the current administration would fail to see and acknowledge the important role the US plays in maintaining a strong military and nuclear position.
Thank you President Obama for showing us the true face of liberalism.
I used to think liberalism was a slippery ideology, tending to create projects and policies that depended on the whims of the individual in power. Obama has shown us, however, the slow and steady liberal policies on which great government is built.
We've come to understand the true nature of our democratic republic, that voters don't really matter very much as long as the central government maintains order and power. Security and entitlements are far more important than the outdated ideal of limited government. We can rest assured, as long as liberals are in charge, that government will always work for the best interests of the people. It will not, for example, work to create any power grabbing ploys or behind the back deals to buy off representatives or senators. And we understand that liberals will only tax the greedy rich people.
I'm certainly thankful that we have, as Nancy Pelosi said, the most honest and open government ever.
Thank you leftist liberals for showing us how wrong race-baiting is.
When President Obama was elected, I knew that we had finally grown up as a nation where race was no longer a weapon to be wielded in political battles. How extraordinary that we've come so far in our acceptance of differing races, especially Blacks, in our country that we can discuss and debate issues without raising the ugly head of race-baiting, or throwing down the gauntlet of racism, only to get political gain.
We've indeed come a long way in this country so I'm certainly thankful we have Obama and leftist liberals to lead the way to a better world. It would certainly be a shame for our country to take a step backward and return to the founding policies that derailed us so many years ago when our country was formed. Limited government, states' rights, and individualism are too highly overrated.
