President Obama had a different viewpoint in 2006 when he blamed the national debt on Bush. Now he's singing a different tune.
With the talk of raising the debt ceiling - allowing the US to "legally" borrow more money to keep up with the skyrocketing national debt, let us reflect on some surprising words of wisdom Obama said back in 2006:
The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. (Kudos to the National Review for finding this.)Of course, when the national debt was Bush's fault, leftists like Obama couldn't help but condemn the actions of the Bush administration. Now that the debt is his own, Obama's economic advisor, Austin Goolsbee sees the Senate refusal to extend the debt ceiling as "catastrophic" and a sign of "insanity."
No, the real insanity is this stellar hypocrisy of the left, whose doctrine of statist leadership, entitlement, and political expediency trumps any standard of common sense leadership. What are we to think of your leadership Mr. Obama? Are we supposed to forget what you said because of the Evil President Bush? Or do we hold you to the same standards that you espoused in 2006?
We have truly become a people governed by greed and hypocrisy.
