First off, if you haven't looked at Steven Crowder's latest video, you definitely need to see it and get some humor today. It's a brilliant take on modern liberalism. Go look at it right now. I'll wait.
CNN and the New York Times reported on and created national news about Carrie Prejean's announcement to appear in a National Organization for Marriage (NOM) ad that speaks in favor of marriage and against the religious bias and bigotry displayed by gay and left-wing activists who push for same sex marriage. I've already posted the news release from NOM. What interests me are all of the vindictive news and comment statements leveled at Carrie Prejean, NOM, Christians, religious people, conservatives, Republicans, and assorted other Americans who think marriage isn't about homosexual sex (i.e., the majority).
Keep in mind, that it wasn't Carry Prejean who started this mess. Perez Hilton is to blame for bringing the question up in the first place, politicizing the pageant and sparking gay activist outrage into a full-blown inferno. Gay activists have the tail wagging the dog on the issue of same sex marriage.
As a public service, I've collected some of the more colorful (yet edited) comments as a testimonial that: 1) Perez Hilton isn't just a fluke of nature and really does represent gays in all their crass glory; 2) the "unbiased" news media is really unbelievably biased; 3) a lot of gay activists really and truly hate religion and religious people; 4) vulgar speech and personal attacks are a gay's best friend; and 5) all of these people debase the sacred institution of marriage through invectives, hate speech, and crude language then take the moral high ground and accuse marriage supporters such as NOM and Carrie Prejean of being bigots.
First off, here's Carrie Prejean's Miss USA statement about marriage:
"I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage and, you know what, in my country and my family I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anyone out there but that's how I was raised and that's how I think it should be between a man and a woman."True, it's not the most poised and articulate of statements. I'm certain that Carrie Prejean was completely thrown off balance by a question that wasn't supposed to be in a Miss USA pageant anyway.
Here are some news and comment responses to the news that Carrie Prejean appears in the NOM ad:
"We are deeply saddened Carrie Prejean has forgotten her platform of the Special Olympics, her commitment to all Californians and solidified her legacy as one that goes beyond the rights to voice her beliefs and instead reveals her opportunistic agenda." (Executive Directors and Producers of the Miss California USA Pageant, CNN)Instead, she was supposed to be, what? A good little automaton and merely spew the same blather about same sex marriage that the directors and producers want? And by affirming marriage, isn't she expressing what Californians expressed in the last election with Proposition 8?
California is often characterized as a liberal state for politics in Los Angeles and San Francisco, but Prejean comes from a small town, Vista, in conservative San Diego County. (Reuters)Ah! That explains Carrie Prejean's "backward" stance on marriage. She's a small town hick who doesn't know any better.
“Since you can’t communicate, when do you say, ‘Alright [sic], come back and follow the Miss California itinerary and get on board or we’re going to fire you?’” [Access Hollywood’s] Billy [Bush] asked.Let's get this one straight. This is the same Shanna Moakler, former Miss USA who first "outed" Carrie Prejean's breasts, telling Access Hollywood that the Miss USA Pageant paid for them. Then she suggests that Carrie Prejean may get fired from her title for non-compliance with the pageant? At best, this is harrassment. At worst, this is extortion. Where's the feminist outcry against these people? Oh, that's right. The feminists have so wholely bought into the same sex argument that they'll prostitute one idea to save another.“I guess we’re all going to have to wait and see how that plays out because I don’t have the answers for that,” Shanna [Moakler] said. (MSNBC)
"Is Miss California the new face of anti-gay ignorance?" (Gay & Lesbian Times)Implied: Anyone, anyone who doesn't agree with the gay and lesbian push for same sex marriage is ignorant. Also implied: Pro-marriage equals anti-gay. Notice the very subtle and provocative shift from same sex marriage to gays. Nearly every gay activist equates beliefs in marriage between a man and a woman as also being anti-gay. From there, it is a short step to the judgment that all pro-marriage advocates are bigots and haters because they are "against" gays.
Here's an analogy: Let's say that one of my friends thinks that Barack Obama is the Messiah. We've been friends for years but I happen to disagree with his beliefs. Say he gets angry at me because I disagree with him, calls me ignorant, and tells me "You hate me because you don't agree with my point of view, adopt it, and worship Obama the way I do. You are a bigot."
Doesn't make any sense, does it? Neither does the gay diatribe against marriage supporters.
Is Joe Solnonese really saying that since they used his quote that NOM is relying on his lies? Go back and reread the passage. The president of the Human Rights Campaign, Joe Solmonese – who is seen calling gay marriage opponents bigots in the advertisement – retorted in a statement that the National Organization for Marriage’s “relationship with the truth could use some help.”
“As far as my cameo, I appreciate them emphasizing my point that when debating the merits of this issue they only have lies on which to rely,” Mr. Solmonese said. (New York Times)
Now on to some more "colorful" comments. These all come from Entertainment Weekly, one of the few news sources that allowed comments on their story about Carrie Prejean:
"Beauty queens are meant to be seen and not heard." (Sexism in the name of gay activism is OK?)
"To add to the song title, "T*** and A***" and no brains." (Mysogany by any other name....Where is the feminist outcry? Apparently they don't defend pageant women.)
"CHRISTIANS- stop trying to force your beliefs on an entire nation! No good has EVER come from a Theocracy. Live your life by your religious beliefs and let us live ours by our intelligence." (Only a few comments down and the first attack against Christians. Apparently, according to gay activists, Christians have no claim on intelligence. And, apparently, this person is intimately acquainted with all historical theocracies to make such a broad statement.)
"The Bible also says "He that is without sin let him be the first to cast a stone". In other words, don't pass judgment on others when you're hardly any better yourself. That goes for Miss California and for all you Bible-thumpers. I love how you hypocrites only choose to follow what you want from the Bible. You right-wing so-called "Christians" are the same people who do some of the most awful things behind closed doors one can imagine, therefore you guys have NO business "protecting the sanctity of marriage". All you're really protecting is your ignorance." (Why do gay activists feel so threatened by the Bible? Because they understand that it represents a standard of morality that they have rejected in favor of sexual behavior. Sure, they'll throw verses out to try and shame the Christians, but hold none of the standards that the verses imply. Also, notice how this person can only feel good about his/her own actions by supposing that Christians are even more depraved and debased.)
"------Meet[deleted] .C O M------It is a funny and interesting place to date sexy 4O plus and attractive girls or hot guys. Many hottie photos at this site. I've met many thoughtful singles there." (What was this doing in the comments section?)
"All the haters, you're going to hell." (This one was signed by "God." It's ok to consign believers to hell by pretending to be God? The same poster also made the statement from "God": "I am gay." What exactly is this person trying to accomplish but to blaspheme and prove that he's as hateful as the people he hates?)
"What I still do not understand, is even if you believe homosexuality and same sex marriage to be the worst abomination on Earth, WHAT'S IT TO YOU??? SOOOO WHAT??? It doesn't affect you. Those bs. reasons about it being taught in school and forced upon churches are just that. B.S." (Implied: Religious people don't want marriage redefined because they believe homosexuality is an abomination. The two are separate issues. It's the gay activists who can't seem to separate them in their minds. Also implied is that the gay agenda doesn't affect anyone but gays. This is unfortunately not true. Also, also implied is that only people who accept same sex marriage can think for themselves. Also untrue.)
"As for Miss California...Real breast or fake ...Well did you know an NFL football is fake pigskin? Well it is still fun to play with too!!She will turn up on a video receiving some good ol American Sodomy from a lesbian illegal alien!!! Could someone e-mail it to me when it happens!! (Direct attack which indicates the debased thoughts of the commentor.)
"As a believer in free speech, I applaud her dead f***ing wrong stance on this issue." (Vulgarity goes hand in hand with the gay activists attacks on Carry Prejean. Apparently being gay gives a person license to also be vulgar and insulting.)
"I can't believe people are shocked at this bimbo's opinion. As good ol' Sarah Palin did, she's parading around in this "beauty contest," which showcases her "lets-set-the-womens-movement-back-50-years" mindset. Clearly she's not into the women-as-equals school of thought. Why should her opinion of gays be any different?" (Carrie Prejean is a "bimbo" because she dared to have an opinion that didn't coincide with gay activists. And this guy has the temerity to stand on the moral high ground of feminism?)
"She's a piece of S*&t" (Another fine example of the debased language of the opposition.)
Admittedly, there were many comments in this particular news story that took the issue on both sides and argued without resorting to crude language or name calling. Yet this sampling of stories and comments shows continued attacks against NOM, Carrie Prejean, and marriage supporters everywhere.
Keep in mind that the same sex marriage advocates are just warming up. I shudder to see what happens when the real battles start.
