Nancy Pelosi's shocked! Shocked, I tell you that she's lost control of the House of Representatives.
Republicans, spurred on by a poor economic recovery and an out-of-touch Congress, have won a historical victory in the 2010 mid-term election. While this is a pendulum tick in the right direction, the troubles of the country now rest squarely on the shoulders of the party that left its conservative base in the dust years ago.
The question now is what does this Republican victory mean? Here are my thoughts on the passing scene of this year's election:
Nancy Pelosi will have to give up her position as Speaker of the House. This is the best news of the entire election. Americans should celebrate by dancing in the streets.
John Boehner will most likely pick up the gavel as next year's Speaker. We'll see if he plays nice with the rest of the conservatives or if he'll end up being just another Neocon (i.e., a gutless wonder). His display of emotion tonight was kind of creepy.
With a split House and Senate, and with President Obama still in power, there very well may be gridlock in Washington DC. This is not, however, a bad thing. I've long advocated having power split between the Democrats and the Republicans in the executive and legislative branches.
Despite the Democrats keeping control of the Senate, enough Republicans have slipped in to upset Harry Reid's little club enough to at least stir the pot. Maybe the next Supreme Court justice appointee won't be such a stamp-molded image Obama.
Why on earth did Nevadans put Reid back in office?
Why would Californians elect Jerry Brown again as governor when they had such a fun time throwing him out so many years ago? Americans suffer from short term memory problems.
It looks like Californians weren't stupid enough to legalize marijuana. Arizonans as well didn't fall for the medical marijuana lie that is so blatantly a means to get pot users and abusers feet in the door. We've spent untold millions trying to destroy the tobacco industry because smoking is hazardous to the health and now we want to turn around and legalize marijuana?
How will MSNBC spin this election tomorrow? I can hardly wait to watch Rachel and Keith have nervous breakdowns.
Will today's election bring us hope and change? Hardly. Remember that the primary function of our government is to provide entertainment. At that, our system is unsurpassed in its ability.
