The Defamation of Carrie Prejean

Miss California USA, Carrie Prejean is a model. Why is everyone so shocked at her lingerie photos? What's really going on?

Another series of news stories appeared today as another lingerie photo of Carrie Prejean made its way onto the internet. One of the latest headlines reads:

The headline, of course, is misleading but gets right to the core of what's bugging the entertainment industry and gay bloggers across the globe. This isn't about nudie pics of Prejean (their term, not mine). This isn't about her embarrassment over those photos. This isn't about her cover story for the photos. That is merely a smokescreen for what's really eating these kneejerks. The simple fact is that they are completely intolerant about Miss Prejean's beliefs about marriage. And in order to vilify a Christian girl for her beliefs, these modern magistrates of morality must paint a picture of Prejean's intolerance against gays.

Here's what the story says under that headline:

Prejean, whose anti-gay marriage comments during the Miss USA pageant thrust her into the national spotlight, may also have some explaining to do about a series of court documents from her parents' messy, decade-long divorce proceedings.

The papers, dug up by TMZ.com, show that Prejean's parents flung a series of homosexual allegations against one another.

In one of the documents, Prejean's father describes a confrontation he had with her mother in 1996, in which "Ms. Prejean accused me, in front of our daughter, of homosexuality." (NY Daily News)

TMZ, a Hollywood gossip website, dug up the divorce papers of Carrie Prejean's parents who, among other things, flung epithets of homosexuality at each other in what appears to be quite a heated dispute.

Here's the question: Why does Carrie Prejean "have some explaining to do" about her parents' divorce? What connection does that have with her present beliefs in marriage? Are these people trying to say that Carrie is responsible for her parents? Are these people trying to say that Carrie's mother made Carrie hate gays and therefore her beliefs about marriage are skewed?

Why are these people trying so hard to discredit and defame Carrie Prejean?

Could it be some kind of gay agenda?
