Today I noticed a plethora of terrific quotes from our present-day conservatives. These are the sort of quotes I read and say to myself, "I wish I'd written that." Consider the following:
Cal Thomas On Liberal Ideology
The federal government under Democrats and some Republicans is that ideology has trumped history and common sense when it comes to taxes and spending.... But their liberal ideology is so frozen it cannot move from its desire to "tax the rich."... Unfortunately, there is no escaping the long arm of the federal government, which may be why the Obama administration wants to cut back on space travel. (Cal Thomas)Thomas Sowell on "Fairness"
Creating a difference that would not exist otherwise is discrimination, and something can be done about that. But, in recent times, virtually any disparity in outcomes is almost automatically blamed on discrimination, despite the incredible range of other reasons for disparities between individuals and groups. (Thomas Sowell)Pat Buchanan on Overextended Spending
We shall see if democracy, which grew popular lavishing benefits upon all, is strong enough to start clawing them away. Or will democracy try to keep piling the burden on the producers until they rebel or depart? (Pat Buchanan)David Limbaugh on Liberals' Good Intentions
Notice how liberal Democrats frame almost any issue: stressing their supposedly good intentions and the Republicans' alleged lack of compassion to avoid a genuine debate and scrutiny of their policies. (David Limbaugh)David Limbaugh on Success
These liberals cannot afford to allow success to stand, lest they be with fewer victims to exploit and conservatives to demonize. (David Limbaugh)Last, but certainly not least, is the Grandmaster, Allan Bloom, whose book The Closing of the American Mind disclosed the problems of liberalism in the universities more than two decades ago.
Allan Bloom on Liberal Virtues
Thus determination, will, commitment, caring (here is where this now silly expression got its force), concern or what have you become the new virtues. The new revolutionary charm became evident in the U.S. in the sixties, much to the distaste of old Marxists. There is also something of this in the current sympathy for terrorists, because "they care." I have seen young people, and older people too, who are good democratic liberals, lovers of peace and gentleness, struck dumb with admiration for individuals threatening or using the most terrible violence for the slightest and tawdriest reasons. They have a sneaking suspicion that they are face to face with men of real commitment, which they themselves lack. And commitment, not truth, is believed to be what counts. (Page 221)
