Gallup published a new poll identifying the dominant ideology in the US - conservatism. Conservatism continues to gain ground, I believe, in light of President Obama's and other government liberals' policies with regard to the management of this country. Self identified conservatives now outnumber self-identified liberals more than two to one. The ideologies lie roughly along partisan lines: Republicans tend to identify as conservatives and Democrats tend to identify as liberals.
As Gallup Polls reports:
The ideological orientation of Americans seen thus far in 2010 would represent a record-high level of conservatism (since at least 1992) if it is maintained for the full year. This follows an increase in the percentage of conservatives in 2009 that was fueled by heightened conservatism among independents, a pattern that continues today.I suggest this also portends a growing general dissatisfaction with liberalism (instead of as a mere opposition to the current administration). As we enter 100 years of liberalized government policy, Americans are waking up to the fact that modern political liberalism or progressivism is a failed ideology, based in part on pipe-dream utopian ideals, Marxist doctrine, and vague, albeit skewed, concepts of "fairness," race, and equality.
Here's hoping the huge sector of independents in the US carry us into a better future based on sound principles of limited government (instead of government interference in everything from marriage to health care), an extended market economy (instead of huge and unwieldy government regulation), the fundamental ideal of liberty (instead of liberalized "fairness"), and a renewed confidence in the Constitution (instead of mushy "living" interpretation based on whim and personal beliefs).
Pass the good word along. Conservatism is winning.
