Info Post

How many of my friends, conservative and liberal alike have read The Declaration of Independence recently? Better, how many understand it and its implications? I'll include here the part that describes the political theory - the part of the Declaration that we're most familiar with:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government,...
When we think of the role of government, always remember that government derives just powers only from the consent of the governed. May we, as a people live free, in liberty and justice and not controlled by unscrupulous politicians bent on state and economic control. May we remember that our inalienable rights derive from our Creator, not from government. May we learn that it is our responsibility to govern, and not to be governed.

From such principles, we are free, able to act for ourselves and not subject to the whims and ideologies of conspiring politicians.
